Car Tire Preparation  (United States)

Now that I'll get my Danson Kit late March and after talking to Wayne, who really knows what he's talking about, I am determined to put the Bridgestone Potenza 165/65--14 on when I take the Burgy apart to install the kit.  I have a friend who has a tire shop, and I'm wondering if he can turn the rim while I lower my belt sander down with an attempt to take about 1/32 to 1/8 inch off the flat part of the inside rim.  Seems to me to lay a belt sander "very lightly" down on the rim while it's turning, this could quickly prepare the rim to fit the 165/65--14-----which I understand is a tad too small for the Burgy rim.  I figure that when it's done and ready to go, I had best have a car scissor jack in case of a flat tire--so many things to consider when traveling.  I'm really looking forward to late April or early May----if this trike comes out anywhere near perfect, I'm taking off for a tour of the USA---lots to plan for---wondering about pulling a light weight motorcycle trailer------Ev

Re: Car Tire Preparation  (Canada)

I think a belt sander would turn it too fast, with a mini grinder you can control the turning speed of the wheel by tiping the grinder left and right and you dont need anyone to turn it. Dont take 1/8 in off, just go with 1/ 32 it would be enough. and sand it smooth when done I polished mine and you could not tell it was cut down and made tire go on very easy. Ill explane it more when you start to do it. A machine shop would be the best place to have it done, but grinding will do the job, just have to be carefull, a new wheel is about $380.  Wayne
