Tow-Pac vs. Danson Suspension  (N/A)

Hello All - I have a question.  I own a Burgman 400 with a Tow-Pac trike kit on it.  I've adjust my suspension time after time on my 400, and have it the best it's going to get.  I've also removed the fenders from the Tow-Pac kit and adjusted it's suspension a few times, and have it the best it can be.  However, this thing runs extremely rough.  That's all there is to it.  I have to be careful riding over man hole covers, any kind of bump in the road, etc.  I have a bad back, and I've just come to accept the fact that I'm going to hurt when I ride.  I've gotten kind of used to it I guess.

My question is:  Does the Danson kit ride a LOT smoother than the Tow-Pac kit?  I'm seriously thinking of buying a Danson kit to replace my Tow-Pack kit.  I see pics of the Danson kit, and they have springs on their wheels.  I'm hoping that the Danson rides considerably smoother and though an expensive change, would be well worth it.

Does anybody have aexperience on both kits and speak to the difference??

Thanks in advance.

Re: Tow-Pac vs. Danson Suspension  (Canada)

I dont know any thing about the Towpac. My Danson is smooth because I did a lot to the suspension  after I put the kit on. I have racetec suspension on the front forks, Icon shocks on the back end of  Burgman and I replaced the shocks on the Danson with progressive air shocks, so there is a way to make it smoother but it will cost over $1000 to get there. The car tire is a big improvement. Mine I think is smoother than when it was a bike and I can hit bad roads and I have no problem. I also have softer foam in my Corbin seat and use an Airhawk, so all there things help.  Wayne

Re: Tow-Pac vs. Danson Suspension  (United States)

I can second some of what Wayne said and also what you are seeing. I have close to 4000 miles on mine on a 650.

When I got it in the instructions said it was setup for a 650 so I put it on and started riding. Yep it was bumpy and figured that was just what it was going to be,

After listening to a number of people and with my rear tire wearing in the middle I decided to go with a car tire and the Ikon shocks.

Just put them on in the last couple of weeks and it has made a world of difference. One thing it does do is raise the rear of the bike. I did not reajust the wheels on the tow pac down so it is now more like it is probably supposed to be designed for. Litle tires hold it up for when it might fall and not as a trike. This does make taking corners a little differentbut not as much as I would have thought.

That idea came from Gramps in another thread. Thanks Gramps..

Also had the problem of the fenders bouncing up against my saddle bags. Didn't notice that at all this morning.

You might try raising the wheels some on both sides and just see. Walked out and looked at mine and I can take my toe while standing up and rotate them now so they are not down as far as they were before.

Don't know how much of this is like a 400 but that is my experiance.

Also when we were in EurikaSprings at the Renegade Rally last year there wer both types of scooters there so if you get a chance you might want to go there.

Good luck and hope you find a good solution.

Re: Tow-Pac vs. Danson Suspension  (N/A)

Thanks much.  I'm going to replace my Tow-Pac with a Danson next year around June when I have the money.  Unfortunately, Ikon doesn't make shocks for the 400, but sounds like I can still upgrade the Danson shocks.  I bet I'll notice a world of difference with just the Danson without the upgraded shocks.  I think it will be worth it for me.

Where is your car tire - on the Danson???

Thanks again

The car tire is on the 650  bike, I dont think they found one for the 400.   Wayne

Re: Tow-Pac vs. Danson Suspension  (N/A)

db297,  How did it do before the Tow-Pac?

If it was a lot better with out it, I would try taking a good bit off tension off the Tow-Pac wheels and try that with the idea that when you sit on the bike and depress the bike suspension it also pushes the Tow-Pac down.

Just a thought till you can compare to others.

Just a side comment, First Turn Suzuki in Scott Louisiana has a Burgman 400 with Tow-Pac installed.

Good luck.
